Recovering, part 3

The street lead the pair out onto Park Avenue, around 71st. There were a lot of shops and restaurants along here by the look of the bustling shoppers in the summer heat, many with rain gear. It felt like the sky might open up anytime now. It was a main drag so there were plenty of cabs going along the streets to catch. But Kate was more focused on something other than the upscale boutiques and bistros.

"Oh, good, we're right near it. Come on, it's by the Park." She then tugged him along 71st.

Inside is a wonderful aroma of smells and bustle as everyone hides from the rain,

"Oh aye, loads o'things to try."

She handed him a menu, "Well, take a look. Anything that jumps out?"

"'ard choice, what do ye like? All I know is I'm rather 'ungry."

"Split a pepperoni and sausage? I know Eli always likes that one. And we can get some wings to go with it for you too."

He looks over the menu a bit more and at her,

"'ow 'bout 'alf with e'erythin' an the other with whate'er ye like? Na need to get wings for me but 'rhaps some o'those filled pastry things."

"Oh those roll ups? Or you mean a calzone?"

"The sweet ones in the case o'er there."

He points at the canelloni.

She laughed, "Oh the cannoli, all right. Should have known." She ordered the pie with half the works, half a garden special and some cannoli with a couple of cokes.

He kisses her cheek with a grin and snags them a booth, scaring away some younger kids with a glare.

"Hey be nice." She slipped some money to a server and told him to get the kids some Italian ices for their trouble.

Their cokes came right away.

"You've had soda before, right?" She then asked him as they waited for their pizza.

"Oh aye an was bein' nice just wasna any place else."

He settles down in the booth and squeezes her hand.

"Uh huh." Pointed look, but she squeezed his hand back a few minutes later as she sipped her drink.

"Promise will be good, love."

He takes a sip and gives her a small smile, he enjoys arguing with her like this, she has her warmth back.

Warmth and fire again clearly by the look of her face. There was nothing cold present, even though some of that darkness before was her own.

"You better, or you're getting punished later." Another sip, and she then almost choked on her drink as she realized.

"That a promise, me love? 'member ages ago, spoke o'tyin' me up, ne'er did do it."

"No just held your wrists... I... I don't know about that." Distant look again as she was reminded of when she was locked away in herself.

He pulls her into a hug and strokes her hair,

"Shh, was all I meant, Kate. Was badly said on me part. I trust ye an am glad to give meself o'er to ye."

Then the pizza arrives and he gives her a kiss on the cheek.

"Yeah... it's uh bad timing for now." She was still glancing away, but turned to peer back at the kiss. She looked at the pizza for the moment, and sipped more of her drink. Can't even enjoy joking with Will like she used to.

Gently he turns her face towards him,

"I love ye, Kate, ne'er forget that. Na matter what."

She just nodded.

"I just need a lot of time, Will."

"Aye, I know, love, an I'll be 'ere for ye through all o'it."

She sniffled a little, and grabbed a napkin to wipe her eyes. Damn, happening again. God, not here, please? Maybe she could stand up, and just excuse herself to the ladies room.

Yeah right, and how could she stop him from barging in?

He turns her so that she's resting on his shoulder and whispers,

"Can cry if ye need to, love."

She shook her head, and shuddered a little.

"Not here, not now... no please." Even as more tears started to fall, and she hugged him tightly, burying her head into his neck and shoulder.

He hugs her and rocks her, shooing away the waitress who comes over with a quiet smile,

"Whate'er ye need, love. I'm 'ere an we'll be fine."
