Thy Kingdom Come: Seek the darkness and ye shall find it.
(One had to be careful when they start searching for answers. The ones they find, or stumble across, might not be what they want or were looking for.)
She had settled into sleep, and her brain patterns slipped into REM sleep. The dream state. She was outside by the Avengers mansion, watching time shifting and changing all around them. Because of Kang, and Kang the Conqueror. The changes took away Billy, and Teddy. Possibly Cassie too.
"She's going to betray you all later, I saw it. And one of the Witch's spawn? Why should he matter, or you? You were never on my younger self's list." It was the older Kang, Kang the Conqueror staring back at her, and their surroundings shifted. Walls of an old hospital by the look of it. Paint crumbling, sickly dim yellow light.
"You're not really an Avenger. You have no power, and the little you have... can be taken away." He was taunting her with her sword again from one end of the hallway. "You couldn't leave well enough alone. Just like your dear old mother." He was aiming his futuristic gun at her mother now, and still had the sword aimed at Kate.
She tried to run toward them, only for her mother to be shot and vanish again, "No!" She was then stopped as she was grabbed from behind, an arm catching her around the neck to choke her. And the other hand going lower... No, no, not this! Not again! Hard to breathe, but she could still elbow him in the chin, stomp his foot, and kick him in the gut. And felt her attacker fall away and disappear.
"So you are an Avenger... or should I say, killer," Kang the Conquerer taunted her, "You killed me after all. As surely as that whelp of my younger self did."
She shook her head as he approached her while she was still coughing and struggling to breathe again, "Avengers don't kill."
"No? Isn't this your sword? Your stolen sword from the Avengers lockers? The one that sliced through my gut? Do you want it back?" He hissed at her, and then suddenly charged forward to plunge into her stomach.
"TAKE IT!" He yelled. She turned so it only hit her to the side of her torso. Narrowly missing the vitals as it sliced in. She sank down as he removed it and he then vanished. She plunged her fist into the wound, trying to limit how much she would bleed out. Even though, trickles of blood pooling around it, and over her knuckles, dripping on the tiled floor. It hurt, why did it hurt so much in a dream?
And there were footsteps approaching, and a voice, German accent by the sound of it. What's going on?

"Vell, vell," the old crooked man spoke once he stopped a couple of steps away from the bleeding girl. "I see that I has a new patient for surely someone who is bleeding should aquire...a doctor's aid?"
Ohhing softly he tsked a little in a mocking sense before he spoke again. "And so horrible a wound to. You vould be highly unwise or stupid to deny such...aid."
no subject
Hard look in her blue eyes, something very suspicious about this old man.
"You claim to be a doctor? Where are we?"
no subject
"Come..give me your hand and ve shall see about...getting you help." The smile upon the old man's face was something wicked and tight.
A voice in the background tried to whisper into Kate's ear like a little moth seeking a light. However a sharp look from the man sent it away.
no subject
"Yeah, right. You expect me to believe that? You don't look like any doctor that would help people."
Her blue eyes briefly flickered toward wherever that voice was, but she couldn't tell what it was.

A blood stained hand shot out trying to grab ahold of Kate's arm. "It is time for your medicine! I have the perfect perscription!" In his left hand was a rusty looking almost ice pick though it was skinnier. Bloodier.
no subject
"I am not a little girl, and I'll be delivering the prescription here. Take one kick and call us in the morning!" She declared angrily.
no subject
The kicks did their trick but not before he moved with a surprising speed for such an old man. This was his world. He knew the tricks.
His hand came around with the lobotomy pike sweeping down hard intent on trying to pin Kate to the floor with it. "I vill find a way there! This vill not be the end!"
Under them the ground started to shake as the voices picked up. Loud and angry seeking to find any sort of justice. Plaster and dust filled the air but nothing seemed to quell the intent look in Gottreich's eyes.
Kate would be his.

WAKE UP!
She gasped, and blinked, finding herself on the floor in her room. Blood pouring out of the wound in her stomach, and more blood trickling from her leg.

He scrambles down to her, pulling the sheets off the bed to bind her wounds,
"Kate, Kate, look at me."

"I can carry ye to the infirmary. Just 'old on for me, love."
no subject
"Trying. Just have to stay awake." She weakly said, breathing quickly, and her heart rate erratic. Early signs of shock.

This is one of those times being an archer is useful and he's not even aware of his back at the moment, just getting her safe.
As quickly and gently as possible, he moves down the stairs to the infirmary, talking all the while,
"Kate, love, look at my eyes, look for Sherwood, she'll keep ye safe for ye're a 'ero, brave an true. My lady love, who would fight 'gainst all who stand 'gainst 'er."
As he passes through the Bar, Will calls out,
"Need a 'ealer, please, ye must save 'er!!"
Then disappears into the infirmary to gently lay Kate on a bed, talking to her all the while and never breaking her gaze.

She finally said, "There's got to be a way to protect ourselves. I fought him for a moment, and I know I hurt him before he hurt me."
no subject
He knows she's right but he's also rather shaken and looks at her on the bed, leaning down to kiss her forehead,
"Could I lay beside ye, love?"

"Thought was goin' to lose ye."
no subject
"Thought I'd be lost back there for good then."
no subject
"Would 'ave fought an done anythin' I could to get ye back. An ye're 'ere an alive."
no subject
Kate nodded, and gave a weak laugh to hide the fear still evident in her voice, "Both still alive. Maybe we're like cats with nine lives?"
no subject
He gives her a very gentle kiss before speaking again,
"Just outlaws."
