Recovering, part 3

The street lead the pair out onto Park Avenue, around 71st. There were a lot of shops and restaurants along here by the look of the bustling shoppers in the summer heat, many with rain gear. It felt like the sky might open up anytime now. It was a main drag so there were plenty of cabs going along the streets to catch. But Kate was more focused on something other than the upscale boutiques and bistros.

"Oh, good, we're right near it. Come on, it's by the Park." She then tugged him along 71st.

"Should we try to make a run for it? Or oh, I could get us some rain gear here at least. They got rain jackets."

"Let's run for it, ye look lovely with yer 'air all wet."

"My clothes will get soaked though."

"'ow far is the store?"

"About five blocks."

"Right, then let's get stuff like cloaks."

Kate stared at him, and remarked as they headed to the clothes racks with them, "Didn't I just say that?"

Luckily men's and women's outerwear were near each other so they didn't have to hunt all through the store.

"Aye, ye did, love. I just was thinkin' if wasna too far we could walk but this seems easier. Love ye an glad ye know more than me."

He gives her a hug as they head over to the rain stuff.

"Because we're on my turf. You'd be the same way in Sherwood. That's all." She hugged him back, and then looked through for something promising.

"That's a pretty color, matches yer eyes."

Reaching around her he finds a simple windbreaker in a beautiful deep blue.

"It's nice. Simple. Pretty sure they have similiar ones in men's sizes in green for you."

"Would like that."

He kisses her hair again, because he can and she's there and safe and his.

"It's ok, Will." She softly reassured him at the kiss.

She checked the time, and found her size for the windbreaker. She then headed over to the men's rack, and picked out a green one in Will's size.

"Here, might want to try that on to make sure."

He pulls it on, looking at the fabric with interest,

"We doin' well 'nough on time?"

Then he swings his arms and grins at the swish sound the gore tex makes.

"Modern fabrics, Will. And yeah, we have a couple of hours. Can still find something and grab a pizza afterward before you have to go back."

"Oh aye, well does fit."

He pulls it off and takes her hand,

"So gettin' these an then some swimmin' stuff?"

"Yes, should have better luck at the new shop."

She went to the counter to pay for the jackets, and asked for the tags to be trimmed from them so they could wear them right away. Kate waited until they were just through the doors, but still at the overhang of the shop before putting on her jacket with the hood up.

"Next stop, Will?"

He pulls on his when she does though doesn't put the hood up just yet,

"Oh aye, next one, promised ye me in a speedo after all."

"We can get a regular pair of swimming trunks for you too. Should have an extra one anyway."

"Well, aye an na sure wish anyone but ye to see me in those others."

The streets have been cleared off a good bit by the rain so the walk to the next store is nice. Its a funky menswear place with a vaguely rustic theme, the white porcelain deer's head make Will blink when they walk in.

"Hence the trunks are for public, speedos for private. Deal?" She smirked as she walked in the store calmly, and glanced for the swim wear section.

"Aye, deal."

The fake rusticity is confusing and Will pokes at a fur looking throw,

"Isna real."

"That? No, probably some kind of synthetic fur. A lot of places don't like using fur anymore with animal rights groups protesting against it. And it's unnecessary usually now."

She was still peering around, and found the swim wear area. Her hands reached out to rummage through the racks and hangers of clothing.

"Here we go. There's a good selection here."

He comes around to look,

"Oh aye, some pretty colors there just seems all so small. Animal rights?"

"Yes, it's complicated. Some people do so for good reason so animals aren't tortured or abused in some cases. Some go a bit overboard maybe? They consider animals comparable with people or even worth more. And that's not right either. Can ask for some books or articles when we get back if you're interested."

She held up one pair of simple green swimming trunks.

"Hmm, they're basic. What do you think?"
