Recovering, part 3

The street lead the pair out onto Park Avenue, around 71st. There were a lot of shops and restaurants along here by the look of the bustling shoppers in the summer heat, many with rain gear. It felt like the sky might open up anytime now. It was a main drag so there were plenty of cabs going along the streets to catch. But Kate was more focused on something other than the upscale boutiques and bistros.

"Oh, good, we're right near it. Come on, it's by the Park." She then tugged him along 71st.

Kate considered that, "We'll need some suntan lotion too, and you don't have sandals or flip flops do you? Sand can be hot."

"Oh nay, ne'er 'ad a need for 'em though used to be barefoot lot when I was a lad."

Wry look, "I remember. There should be some around here. The sunblock we'd probably have to get at a pharmacy. Especially if we go to a beach in my world. Sun's a lot stronger in my time than it is in yours."

She started to walk around, and there were colorful hawaiian print shirts and bermuda shorts on the racks as she walked past.

Its one of the shirts that has pirates on it that makes him laugh,

"Oh, Kate, look at this."

Its an interesting shirt with illustrations that are a bit old fashioned though with a twist.

Kate glanced back, "Hmm, what?"

"Looks like the pirates at Milliways."

He pulls the shirt out so she can see it.

"Really? I guess I'll have to meet them sometime." She looked over the shirt, and then her eyes met his.

"You want to get this too?"

"It won't look silly? An ye 'avena met 'em, oh aye, introduced me to rum."

"Nope, haven't met any pirates, or seen any pirates around. Well. All right, a pirate king, I don't think he's like the ones you know though."

She eyed the shirt, "It is silly. Why some like to wear shirts like that."

"Good kind o'silly or bad?"

Critical eye to the shirt.

"Hmmm... maybe a bit of both?"

"'rhaps 'nother one that's a bit less then."

"It's your shirt, get what you want. I just think they all look really silly."

He puts it back and gives her a hug,

"These are 'nough for me then, could do with some pizza."

"You sure?" She might try to sneak the pirate shirt in the pile as a surprise. In fact she likely was.

"All right, the nice thing about New York? Lots of place to get a pie."

"Oh aye an 'rhaps a butterscotch sundae for dessert. Then after yer meetin' ye can take me out o'the suit that made ye speechless."

Purchases were paid. Maybe he noticed the shirt being whisked over the counter and into the bag, maybe not.

She smiled up at him, "I think that can be arranged." And came closer for a kiss.

She's sneaky and he's not paying attention because kiss and he's patting her butt,

"Would like that."

Raised eyebrow at the hand on her butt.

"Sure you would. So any ideas what you want on your pizza?" She put her hood up as they headed back outside again. Some of the rain had tapered off to a light drizzle now.

He doesn't even put his up as he follows her and grabs her hand as he takes the bag from her,

"Hmm, na sure."

"Pepperoni, sausage... maybe we should get you one with the works. Or take a look, and see what toppings sound good to you." It was fine enough to walk again, and it wasn't long before they could smell the odor of baking pizza dough, melted cheese, and seasoned tomato sauce. An instant magnet for teenagers.

Inside is a wonderful aroma of smells and bustle as everyone hides from the rain,

"Oh aye, loads o'things to try."

She handed him a menu, "Well, take a look. Anything that jumps out?"

"'ard choice, what do ye like? All I know is I'm rather 'ungry."

"Split a pepperoni and sausage? I know Eli always likes that one. And we can get some wings to go with it for you too."
