Civil War: Prison Break and One Last Battle

She kept Will's hand closely linked in hers as she opened the door to a place that was full of metal, and underground. Realizing how strange and disturbing it must look to the medieval man with dark memories she squeezed his hand a little tighter. Looked quiet enough around this hallway at least for the time being as she walked along in her Hawkeye costume. Her boots making slight noise against the tiled floor.

"Need to find a place you can hide until I can introduced you to Cap. At least my teammates can vouch for you now as well. Everybody's really nervous with the plans to get into the prison now."

There really wasn't much logic in the fight, just attack and react at this point. Everybody fending for themselves.

And then there was a dark shadow extending over the entire group.

"Oh God, tell me that isn't Cloak," Iron Man stared upward in shock.

Kate immediately went to latch her free hand onto Will, getting a bad feeling about this.

"Hang on."

The shadow makes Will just shiver as he holds Kate's hand tightly,

"What's 'appenin'?"

"Cloak..." Was all she could say before the entire battle was swallowed into darkness.

They barely had any time to react to the horrors of traveling through that dark dimension before they were all falling through the sky over the city.

"Fliers! Grab a friend now!" Captain America ordered.

And Vision grabbed Patriot and Speed while Wiccan helped Kate and Will onto one of his flying platforms.

"You guys ok?"

Kate nodded, and glanced at Will, "You all right?"

Will's trembling and his knuckles are white where they're gripping his sword hilt and Kate's hand, he just nods.

Then tries to not think too much about how high they are,

"Like the wizard's curse."

"Hey, I'm not!"

"He meant somebody else, back at Milliways, Billy. You saved us."

Wiccan then grinned, "Well, you all saved me by getting me out of that prison."

Kate quietly said, "I'm sorry, I didn't expect Cloak to do that." She briefly hugged him, taking advantage of the brief lull in fighting as they slowly descended.

He blinks, trying to shake off the darkness which Cloak called back up and gives a weak smile at Wiccan,

"Aye, thank ye. I'll be fine, just surprised me was all."

Then hugs Kate back as they descend, not sure what's next in this strange world.

"Hang on guys! We're landing and looks like breaktime's over."

That much was obvious with people now fighting in the city streets, cars getting wrecked, and buildings damaged as they landed.

Patriot hurried over, "You guys all right."

Kate nodded, "Yeah..." She then brought up her bow and shot at someone about to attack Patriot from behind.

"Be careful, I can't always save your life you know," Kate smirked at him.

"Because I'm saving yours?" Patriot smirked back, and added to Will, "See what I have to put up with? Or wait, you probably already know."

The level of destruction is rather impressive and Will still hasn't figured out why the fight was moved, but has his sword ready.

He cuts down someone who was trying to attack Kate from behind and says as he gives a try at a grin,

"Aye, but she's worth it."

Patriot shook his head at that, "Man, and I thought I had it bad. You got that boy wrapped around your finger, Kate."

Kate slyly glanced back after she fired a few more arrows, "He's worth it too."

Patriot eyed them both, and then headed further into the fray, punching.

They were more to the sides of the battle now, so they had a good view as Namor showed up with Atlanteans to fight, the villains attacking Captain America, and then Thor showing up again, with other fighters.

Kate stared for a moment, "Oh god..."

There's a moment so Will comes over, touching Kate on the shoulder,

"Love?"

So many new fighters, he's not sure who's on which side and its just becoming more chaotic and dangerous.

"I'm not sure what's going on anymore." She started to say, but then they were under attack again so she elbowed one, and fired arrows again.

He defends her right side and spotting an empty alleyway pulls her into it,

"Can watch from 'ere, safer than fightin' without knowin' what's goin' on."

"But, they need my help, Will," She protested, and fired a few more arrows since it was easier to do so from here. In the meantime, Reed was getting shot, Thor was taken down by Hercules finally.

And Captain America and Iron Man were beating each other up, with Cap winning now that Iron Man's armor had been compromised by Vision.

But just as he was about to punch Stark again, a crowd of people rushed over to grab Captain America.

"Cap," she then ran back out to the street.

"Bloody 'ell, Kate, be careful!"

Then he moves after her, fighting off the people who start to gather around. Most of the fighting has paused as everyone watching Captain America and Stark, waiting for what happens next.

Finally he gets to Kate's side, putting a hand on her arm while they watch the dialogue between the two men.

Stark was on the ground, his faceplate armor shattered.

Captain America was meanwhile staring around in shock. At the buildings on fire, and all the destruction that had been wrought. And there was a loud clatter as his shield fell to the broken asphalt.

"We're not fighting for the people anymore. We're just fighting."

Kate continued watching him. She couldn't ever remember seeing Cap cry like that. Her hand came up to touch Will's hand on her arm as she stared around as well. Patriot coming over to stand near them, equally shocked.

Falcon was yelling at him, "We were beating them, man. We were winning back there."

"Everything except the argument."

They continued to watch as Cap took off his mask, and threw it to the ground before allowing himself to be arrested.

His final order as he was lead away, "Stand down troops. That's an order."

Will sheathes his sword and puts an arm around Kate's waist before moving her off to the side again. Luckily he spots Eli as they're moving off and says quickly,

"I'm takin' 'er somewhere safe, keep safe all o'ye."

Then opens a door to the Bar and hurries Kate upstairs to his room, sitting her down and starting the fire up. He quickly goes into the hall, coming back with a mug of chai that he puts into her hands and a plate of pastries for later.

She was just quiet, staring into the mug. Watching her distorted reflection against the surface. Still wondering just what the hell happened. Who won? Did anybody really? And what was the point of it all?

He takes off his sword belt and carefully removes her weapons before putting his modern jacket around her, not saying anything just being there.

She was still staring into the mug.

"Now I'm really not sure what happened," she quietly said.

"War's o'er."

Is all he can think to say as he holds her,

"Tis yer favorite flavor, the vanilla chai one."

"Is it? I mean, just why were we fighting? If it wasn't for stopping the registration act then what?"

She considered the chai a bit longer, and finally acquiesced enough to take a small sip before setting it down with a sigh.

He rubs her arms, hating to see her so unsure and almost shut down,

"Ye were fightin' to be able to protect those who need ye."

"Yeah, we did a great job there with throwing each other into buildings and cars," She bitterly replied.

"Nobody was protecting anyone then. Nobody won because we were all wrong."

"Shh, I dinna believe that, got out o'control aye but war does that. Ye just wanted to keep fightin' for those who canna fight is all. Ye're still a 'ero, my Kate."

"I want to be, but even Cap was just treating all of us as fighters. Soldiers."
