Recovering, part 3

The street lead the pair out onto Park Avenue, around 71st. There were a lot of shops and restaurants along here by the look of the bustling shoppers in the summer heat, many with rain gear. It felt like the sky might open up anytime now. It was a main drag so there were plenty of cabs going along the streets to catch. But Kate was more focused on something other than the upscale boutiques and bistros.

"Oh, good, we're right near it. Come on, it's by the Park." She then tugged him along 71st.

She easily got herself over, and into the yard. There was a statue of Thor nearby. So many. Antman over there. Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Captain Marvel.. and...

"....Oh, Billy must have had made this one too." There was now one of Captain America in the yard as well.

Statues of people who aren't saints are not yet common in Will's time so he looks around with an awed look,

"'e's a fine artist then an tis a lovely garden 'ere."

So he sneaks a kiss, it feels right.

Soft smile, and she walked around. Brief touch to Hawkeye's statue, and then to Cap's.

"It is, this place has been kept as a memorial."

Her eyes remained on the Captain's stone features a moment longer.

"I'm glad you got a chance to meet him. He was a good man."

"Aye, 'e was, good man to follow. Sure 'e an Rob would 'ave been good men to fight together."

"Yeah, if they didn't stop arguing about how to lead." She chuckled a little.

"Would have understood each other though."

"I can show you a little of inside, c'mon."

Suddenly there was a whoosh of air, and a streak of color looping around them before heading inside. Also Kate felt something hit her hair, flouncing a section upward.

"....Tommy."

Will tenses and pulls Kate closer, reaching for where his knife should be,

"Show yerself."

Kate noticed that, and her hand immediately locked onto his wrist.

"Will, no! It's fine."

She let go, and gently pushed Will away so she could step inside.

She then yelled, "Thomas! I know it's you, come on out!"

Another whoosh, and another flounce to her hair.

"Not Tommy?" He zinged back as he zipped around.

"Be lucky I didn't say your full name. Knock it off."

He hates letting her be that far from him but trust her after all this is her world.

It wasn't like Brand could sneak up on her here.

In the meantime, Tommy finally came to stop.

"Sorry, did I interrupt you two playing kissyface? Or plan to knock boots in Stark's old room?"

She was very tempted to slap him, "What are you, five? Did you want something, where's Billy?"

"Probably with his boyfriend, I'm not his cellphone." He just shrugged. "Maybe I wanted to check on my competition again?"

"Tommy... just shut up, and go all right?"

He just smirked at her, and then zipped out to find Will.

"Hey, red guy, uh what are your intentions and all that stuff?"

Eli made him lose his temper but honestly after Brand, Tommy's just an ass who cares about Kate,

"Plan to love 'er an be with 'er long as she'll 'ave me. What are yers?"

Tommy blinked at that, stunned for a moment, and then got poked in the side hard by an emerging Kate.

"Ow!"

"See? Happy now?"

"No, that hurt."

"Good."

Tommy then added, "Oh yeah, uh, we got a meeting here tonight you know."

"...We do?" Now it was her turn to blink.

"Yeah... you don't remember? And what's going on, everybody's saying you're acting funny or something."

Kate facepalmed as she came to stand by Will again, "Not really, it's been a hard few months, I'll tell you all later, ok?"

He watches them and kisses Kate's cheek,

"We can go shoppin' an get dinner, love, then I'll go back while ye 'ave yer meetin'."

Since he knows she's better now and his, which means a lot.

Tommy made a face at that while Kate glanced at Will and nodded, "Of course. And I'll see you back in the bar later on. I'll be fine here."

There was a whoosh of air, and when she glanced toward Tommy he was gone again.

"Guess that's a sign to get going. I gotta keep an eye to the time."

"Oh aye, course. Is the place we're 'eadin' far from 'ere? Glad 'e's wasna too much o'a pain."

"Well, Bergdorf Goodman's close and on 5th, but I don't think you'd like it there." It was a very high priced and high end department store.

"Could try American Apparel? They're further downtown, it's like the place we got your hoodies and khakis." Sort of hip for kids, and she liked the fact that they didn't use sweatshop labor.

"I think they're starting to offer men's swimwear."

She started to walk outside with him, and remarked, "He's being Tommy. Guess they've all been worried about me too."

He pulls her into a hug as they near the fence,

"Course they do, worry 'bout ye much as I do. Sounds like a good place then. Meet ye on the other side?"

First he kisses her on the mouth before scrambling over the fence again and offering her a rose he found in the garden when she lands.

She climbed back over, and there was some surprise at the rose.

Kate took it, and then found herself reminded of that trump Bleys had shown her. The one of Corwin, who was the one she sort of resembled. There was a rose on the card. A silver one.

He sees the way she looks far away from him for a moment so takes her hand and kisses her palm,

"Kate, can go back whene'er ye need to."

She shook her head, "No. Stay. Was just thinking. I met Bleys, Brand's brother, just before... well, before. Gave the demon a talking to, and we spoke for a little while. He told me why Brand thought I was an Amberite. Says I look a little like Corwin."

"Brand said that to me 'fore sent me to die, 'ad forgotten that. Sounded like 'e was usin' it as an 'xcuse an mad too."

"Maybe. Though Bleys showed me a Trump of Corwin, and he does look a little like my dad. Least with the eyes and nose, but he's got more hair on top, and no beard. I don't know, I don't think it really means anything. Other than all this happened on a case of mistaken identity from a psychopath."

"Which isna a good reason."

He pulls her into another hug,

"Come on, love, find me a speedo an somethin' to swim in an we'll 'ave a lovely lunch. Then after yer meetin', can take me out o'the speedo."

She hugged him back.

"Sorry, I'm really trying. Just keep getting reminders. Let's go grab a cab."

"Shh, na 'pologies, Kate. Some days are 'arder than others, tis the way o''ealin'."

The street is close and his arm goes around her waist as he tries to hail a cab, it doesn't work that well.

"I know, I know."

The thunder was closer now, and there was the drip, drip of rain starting to fall.

So Kate raised her arm to flag down a cab that looked empty of passengers. One finally pulled over, and she tugged Will to climb in with her as she said her destination.
